There is so much to love about chocolate. The taste, the sweetness, the texture, the feeling of knowing you’re just about to get some (chocolate). Mostly though, the taste.
So what is not to love about chocolate? In case you are wondering, yes, I am trying to convince myself!
The empty calories: In a block of Cadbury’s, there is over 1000 calories. At least half of your daily requirements, probably more. And what is worse; in a block of milk chocolate, there really are no nutrients you actually need. Maybe there is some goodness in dark chocolate, but probably nothing essential.
The cost: In Australia, you pay anywhere from $3 to $4.50 for a family block of Cadbury’s. More if you are going for Cadbury’s Marvellous Creation blocks and they are not on special. A lot to pay for something you don’t need.
The sugar: Not just empty calories, some would have us believe, but poison or at very least a drug. Chocolate is full of sugar, and with no nutrients and especially no fibre, an enormous sugar load on your body. And the trouble is, the more you eat, the more you can eat over time and the more you want to eat.
The shame: Of knowing you have just devoured yet another block of chocolate and wondering where to hide the wrapper.
A sore jaw: Most people would be amazed by this, but you can actually get a sore jaw from eating too much chocolate. I know this because it happened to me. Too many days of Cadbury’s Marvellous Creations, Crunchie bits flavour. I’d love to put a photo of it in here, but I’m really not sure of the laws around them, so I am leaving well alone! And I am obviously not going to go and buy a block to take a photo of it. Mmmm, maybe I could…. Just kidding, 6 weeks without chocolate, I’m not going to ruin it now! Have a look here for a picture. The chocolate stains on your carpet: When you break chocolate, little bits break off. And land on your carpet and furniture. And melt. Especially in the car.
So if you are in need of chocolate, make yourself some raw chocolate or blend up a chocolate smoothie. Don’t waste your time on the sugary stuff. What do you not love about chocolate?
